The Best Way To Drain A Patio Pool

Patio pools are a great way to cool off on a hot summer day, but they can also be a pain to drain. If you don't drain your pool properly, you could end up with a mess on your hands. That's why it's important to follow the steps below to drain your patio pool the right way.

1. Gather your materials

Before you start draining your pool, you'll need to gather a few materials:

  • A submersible pump
  • A garden hose
  • A bucket
  • A drain plug (if your pool has one)

2. Prepare your pool

Once you have your materials, you can start preparing your pool for draining. First, remove any debris from the pool, such as leaves, twigs, and toys. Next, turn off the pump and filter system.

3. Find the drain

Most patio pools have a drain located at the bottom of the pool. If your pool has a drain plug, remove it now. If your pool does not have a drain plug, you will need to use a submersible pump to drain the pool.

4. Connect the pump

If you are using a submersible pump, connect it to the garden hose and then place it in the pool. Make sure that the pump is completely submerged in water.

5. Start draining

Once the pump is connected, turn it on and start draining the pool. The water will be pumped out of the pool and into the garden hose. You can use the bucket to catch any overflow.

6. Monitor the water level

As the pool drains, be sure to monitor the water level. Once the water level is low enough, you can turn off the pump. If you are using a drain plug, you can simply replace it now.

7. Clean the pool

Once the pool is drained, you can clean it with a mild detergent and water. Be sure to rinse the pool thoroughly before filling it back up.

Tips for draining a patio pool

  • If you have a large pool, it may take several hours to drain. Be patient and don't try to rush the process.
  • If you are using a submersible pump, be sure to keep it submerged in water at all times. Otherwise, the pump could overheat and damage.
  • Be careful not to damage the pool liner when draining the pool.
  • Once the pool is drained, be sure to clean it thoroughly before filling it back up.
